No one ever likes to feel left out. Especially in social settings, and even more especially when it comes to food. I’ve been a picky eater my whole life, but becoming vegan has propelled that to a whole new level. There’s nothing worse than being invited to a dinner with friends, arriving and realizing there’s only one or two dishes (if I’m lucky) on the menu that I can eat. I truly enjoy going out for a nice meal with friends, even if we all don’t share the same diets.
During our trip to Bali, we did our research to find the best restaurants that cater to everyone from vegans to gluten free to meat eaters, so that no one is disappointed on your next vacation to this beautiful island in Indonesia.
CLEAN CANTEEN | SEMINYAK
Located in the Petitenget area of Seminyak, Clean Canteen comes correct with their mission being to bring everyone of every diet to one table. They start from the ground up, using organic, pesticide free, home made ingredients, daily caught fish, and hormone and antibiotic free meats. Their menu is extensive, ranging from Asian to Western influences. We tried a number of dishes, but I have to tell you.. the famous vegan wrap is EVERYTHING. Stuffed with fresh and sautéed veggies, vegan mayo and hot sauce (if you’d like), I honestly crave this wrap everyday. We also loved the vegan tacos, the veggie dumplings and pad Thai. Put this on your list of must visit restaurants in Seminyak.
BAHN MI AND BEANS | CANGUU
Looking for something unique, delicious and well priced? Bahn Mi and Beans brings Vietnamese street food to Bali, and with vegan options to boot. We really love everything about this establishment. From the cozy and modern cafe, to the mouthwatering Vietnamese coffee, and of course the Bahn Mi. That vegan Bahn Mi, made with tofu marinated in Vietnamese spices, exceeded all of my expectations! We got to chat with one of the owners who told us that his recipes come straight from his family in Vietnam. Not only is the food delicious and well priced, but they are committed to sustainability, using zero plastic in their establishment. We highly recommend stopping in if you’re looking for a quick bite to eat in Canggu.
WATERCRESS | UBUD
This restaurant located in the heart of Monkey Forest Road in Ubud completely blew us away! There aren’t many vegetarian/vegan options on the menu, but the quality of every option they do have puts this restaurant on the top of my must visit list. The Summer Lasagna was my absolute favorite, and can be easily veganized by asking for no cheese on top. We also ordered the Kimchi Fried Rice, Smoked Eggplant Flatbread and Fried Cauliflower, all of which were to die for. The ambiance and service is the icing on top, and if you make it in on the weekends you can enjoy live music played on their second floor balcony. We love you, Watercress!
UBUD GLUTEN FREE KITCHEN | UBUD
Traveling when you have food allergies can be a nightmare. Ubud Gluten Free Kitchen is committed to making a joyful dining experience for those suffering from celiac disease and other food allergies. Their kitchen and all kitchen utensils are 100% free of gluten. They have a large menu, catering to meat eaters and vegetarians. They have a large selection of delicious baked goods they make in house, featuring different items that are dairy free, nut free, ketogenic, etc. They also offer made to order cakes specifically leaving out any ingredients you’re allergic to. They’re working hard to make clean and delicious eating accessible to everyone. Be sure to check them out the next time you visit Ubud.
RISE AND SHINE | CANGGU
It seemed as though everyone we met in Canggu raved about Rise and Shine, so we had to check it out for ourselves. When we arrived for breakfast, the cafe was full of people. It was obviously a crowd favorite. The menu is packed with breakfast classics like banana french toast, and vegan favorites. We started with a refreshing dragon fruit smoothie bowl. Patrick ordered the avocado toast topped with a poached egg, and I had the grilled veggie sandwich which was exactly what I’d been craving. The coffee is also a big factor, keeping both locals and tourists coming back every morning. If you’re looking for your new favorite breakfast cafe in Canggu, look no further!
